Colonels complete North Alabama sweep, Ewell hits two more home runs

RICHMOND, Ky. –

Kendal Ewell has homered fourth and fifth in the last two games, and Ron Franklin Jr. hit a pair of homers in one inning, as EKU finished a 3-game sweep over North Alabama with a 15-8 victory Sunday at Earle Combs Stadium.

The Colonels, who now occupy a top spot in ASUN’s Western Division, will host Morehead State on Tuesday at 6pm. For Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer, EKU and the Eagles will be wearing yellow laces in support of pediatric cancer awareness.

After hitting three home runs on Saturday, Ewell tied the game 1-1 with a solo shot on his first at bat of the game.

The Colonels (26-13, 12-6 ASUN) trailed away with nine points in the second. Franklin started the frame with a solo dinger to the left wall. Logan Thomasson had an RBI single. Conner Davis drew a walk loaded with bases. Roderick Criss drove in two with a single down the middle. Franklin capped the inning and made it 11-1 when he sent his second shot of the inning over the wall to left center with two runners.

With one out and no one in fifth, Ewell homered for the fifth time in two games with a shot over the wall into left field for his 12th of the season. The sophomore outfielder also scored a run in the eighth. He finished Sunday’s game 3-5 with two runs and four RBIs. In the last two games combined, he’s 8-for-10 with five home runs, 10 RBIs and six runs scored.

Franklin had a 2-on-4 game with two runs and four RBIs. Charlie Ludwick went 1 for 2 with three walks and two runs.

The bullpen trio Vladimir Ceverino, Antoine Vargas and Will Brian combined for three no-hitter innings to end the game.

Austin Thrasher was 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs for North Alabama (9-28, 2-16 ASUN).
