Moana Pasifka confirms Aaron Mauger as coach

Aaron Mauger will finally be confirmed as Moana Pasifika’s first head coach before the end of the week.

Aaron Mauger was assistant coach for Moana Pasifika’s game against the Māori All Blacks.

RNZ Pacific first announced in July that the former All Black would take on Super Rugby newcomers, with Filo Tiatia as assistant coach.

Moana Pasifika posted on social media last night that the team’s head coach will be revealed soon, with a figure that clearly matches the 45-test veteran.

The 40-year-old is of Samoan, Cook Islands and Tahitian descent and was part of Moana Pasifika’s coaching staff in last year’s one-off clash against the Māori All Blacks.

He spent three seasons at the helm of the Highlanders but his contract was not renewed at the end of last season.

It’s already been a busy week for Moana Pasifika, who has confirmed Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium will be her home ground until 2028.

Dynasty Sport has also been announced as the team’s clothing supplier.

Former All Blacks and Wallabies coach Mick Byrne was announced Friday as Fidjian Drua’s first head coach.
