Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris showed off their Cars of the Year, with the Hyundai i20N taking first prize at the TopGear.com Awards.
The presenter trio chose three distinctly different engines as their personal favorites in a virtual ceremony on Top Gear’s YouTube page on Tuesday.
McGuinness opted for a £ 4million Aston Martin Victor for ‘the driving experience’, while Flintoff opted for the Ginetta G55 Supercup, which made him cry in the series.
Harris voted for the Porsche 911 GT3.
However, the Car of the Year was won by the Hyundai i20N.
Explaining his choice, McGuinness said: “This car could cost £ 4million, but the air conditioning was not working, there are no cup holders, just like you would normally find in a high end car, forget all about it, it was purely about the driving experience.
“And the heat inside… it was relentless, I had to continually wipe the sweat from my eyes. I’ve never driven something like this before and probably never will.
Excited by his driving stunt, McGuinness added: ‘Unsurprisingly, the boys were pretty jealous, especially since the previous series allowed me to drive a £ 3.5million DB5, which they didn’t. weren’t very satisfied either.
“It shows the thinking of the producers though – these are expensive cars, they need to be in good hands. We’ve all seen Harris go around in circles making donuts, and with Fred there’s always the possibility of him flipping it, no one wants that. It’s just one of them they’ll have to deal with.
Flintoff said: “The one car in which I felt more emotions than anything I have ever driven before was the Ginetta G55 Supercup.
“From applying for my racing license in my first endurance race alongside Chris, to being the underdog, it was such a surreal experience.
“I really doubted myself, there were times when I was almost in tears, but, honestly, I had so much fun.”
Harris said: “Porsche is so impressive right now, because it crushes it on the front of the electric vehicle, and then there’s also the Cayenne Turbo GT, which although I’m not interested in it at all, I am told that it drives incredibly well.
“You would think it would be a distraction, but among it all is this little car that Porsche makes called the GT3. He doesn’t do much, but he does get him out of the park every time. I’ve driven 47,000 miles in my 991 gen GT3, and the number of people parking them in garages … get out and drive that damn thing! “
At the ceremony, 18 of the awards presented were voted on by the Top Gear team.
In addition to Car of the Year, the i20N also won the Performance Car of the Year award.
Other winners included the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which was named Family Car of the Year, the Mercedes EQS was crowned Luxury Car of the Year and the Lotus Emira was chosen as the car we have. looking forward to driving in 2022.
Hyundai was named constructor of the year.
